The street Hamilton goes out on.
Hess Village is a two-block stretch of Hess Street South, between King and Main, where the houses are Victorian and almost every one of them has been a bar at some point. It is the oldest going-out street in the city and it still behaves like one — patios out front all summer, the whole strip loud by ten on a Saturday, and enough different rooms that you can move without getting in a car.

Most of the Village runs on one speed. Pub 36 runs on two. Early it’s a bar and grill — burgers smashed to order, wings by the pound, a proper batter on the fish, and screens on for whatever’s playing. Later on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the room changes gears at 11 and After Dark takes over.
In between there’s something on every night of the week: open mic on Mondays, Toonie Tuesday, half-price wings on Wednesday, half-price nachos on Thursday, live music Friday and Saturday, and Industry Sunday for anyone who works in hospitality.
Parking, and the walk in.
There is no free parking in the Village and anyone who tells you otherwise is about to get a ticket. The municipal lots and garages around Caroline and Bay are the sensible option, and Hunter Street GO is about a fifteen-minute walk if you’re coming in by train.
TD Coliseum is 600 metres away — an eight-minute walk — which makes the Village a straightforward pre-game and post-game option. There’s more on that on the game day page.
Jackson Square, the Art Gallery of Hamilton and FirstOntario Concert Hall are all within a few blocks, and the Sheraton and Hampton Inn are close enough that a fair number of people arrive on a hotel recommendation.
