Mondays are the open mic, the live-performance night at 36. Acoustic sets, singer-songwriters, strings and spoken word, seven till eleven. The room goes quiet for whoever’s brave enough, which is the highest compliment a bar crowd gives. Bring a song or just a seat.

The rest of the week runs on the DJs: Motion Fridays and Urban Saturdays, with After Dark changing the gears at 11. Between them: Toonie Tuesday, half-price wings Wednesday, half-price nachos Thursday, and Industry Sunday for the people who pour drinks everywhere else. When the plan is a late night out in Hamilton, this is the strip, and 36 is the room on it that keeps moving.
