Game day · Eight minutes from the arena

Before the puck drops.

Pub 36 sits at 36 Hess St S, in the middle of Hess Village. TD Coliseum is 600 metres from the front door — an eight-minute walk, three minutes if you drive and get lucky with a spot. Close enough to eat properly first, and close enough that walking back afterwards isn’t a decision you have to make.

Get here an hour ahead and you’ll get a seat and a plate. Twelve taps behind the marble, a deep whiskey wall if that’s more your evening, and $4 domestic bottles. The kitchen runs late, so eating after the buzzer works as well as eating before it.

The Hammers

AHL hockey, back downtown.

The Hamilton Hammers — the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders — play their first season at TD Coliseum in 2026-27, with 36 home games on the schedule. The home opener is Friday 9 October against the Toronto Marlies.

Thirty-six nights when a few thousand people walk out of that building looking for somewhere to go. We’re eight minutes down the road with the kitchen still going.

Concerts and everything else at the arena work the same way — dinner before, a seat after, and nobody rushing you out.

Getting between the two

Out the door, turn right.

North on Hess, right onto King, and Bay Street North takes you to the doors. Eight minutes at a walking pace, all of it flat. The same eight minutes in reverse afterwards, and the marble bar is where you left it.

Game nights fill up. If you’re coming with more than four, book ahead — walk-ins are always welcome, just earlier rather than later.
